DADS DESERVE MORE CREDIT

It’s amazing how many of the Dads that I meet at playgroups with their kids, or even just hanging out at the playground.  When you get talking to these Dads about their kids, you see the perma grin from ear to ear.  These are the proud Papas that I’m talking about.  The ones that take an active part in their children’s lives, and really enjoy being a Dad.

I used to hear stories about dead beat Dads who take no responsibility for their children.  I’m happy to say that although it still exists, it’s very rare that I hear this anymore.  While shopping at a grocery store or the mall with my kids in tow, I’ve spoken to many Dads who admiringly look at my kids and then proceed to tell me joyful stories about their kids.

Lets face it, Dads deserve much more credit then they’ve received in the past.  Times have changed and are still changing.  Dads are allowed in the delivery room and they are there as a support person  for the birth of their child.  Dads are changing diapers, giving baths, and sharing in the responsibility of raising their children.

Fathers Day falls on June 17th this year and we wish all of you Dads a Happy Fathers Day.  For those of you Dads that are busy being real Dads our hats go off to you, and for those who aren’t … feel free to step up to the challenge. Written by Cj

WHERE DOES THE TIME GO?

Do you ever wonder where the time goes?  Well, I do all the time!  Every morning I wake up extra early and think to myself great I can get  several things done while the kids are still sleeping.  Then the kids wake up and I look at my watch, great I can get them ready and make it to my daughter’s school early.  Wishful thinking!  You see after we have breakfast, get them washed up and  make an attempt to get them both dressed  my oldest who is almost 3 makes me chase her around the room.  By the time we’re in the car, I take a look at my watch and wonder where the time went.

My youngest just had her 1st birthday and my oldest turns 3 this month.  I think to myself didn't I just give birth to this child the other day?  Where does the time go?  I’ll tell you where the time goes.

Between the time that I wake up in the morning and go to bed I’ve dressed  myself and 2 kids (several times in the day), changed numerous soiled diapers, made breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, dropped off and picked up my daughter from school, attempted to tidy up after a toddler and preschooler, did laundry , groceries, run errands and several other household duties.  This is where the time goes!

This month makes 6 months since Moms of Mississauga Website and Newsletter has been launched.  I can’t believe that 1/2 a year has gone by.  Where does the time go? Written by Cj

We’d like to hear from you.  What do you think of Momsof Mississauga?

Personal and Family Safety Protection Tips

Movies have always been one of the best forms of ‘entertainment’ activities that families like to do together. I remember as a kid how much fun our entire family had when we went to the movies. I enjoyed the whole atmosphere - sitting by my parents and sharing popcorn with my  sister,  Julia . Never did I worry about safety because I had my Dad with us, who was a well respected, who could handle anything!

But things are different in today’s world and we as good people need to adapt and change accordingly, especially if the welfare of our safety or our loved ones is at stake. I still like to go to movies to this day and carry the tradition on with my family but due to the changing times I have a much more safer approach.

With that being said here are some tips to follow when you are with your kids at the movie theater:

·          KNOW the theater lay-out, mainly the exits and in an emergency GO directly to the nearest one!

·          KNOW your sight limitations due to the lighting in a theater and make sure you have decent visibility before you GO and make your move to exit. Carrying a small flashlight as an added precaution can be a life-saver.
·          KNOW how to get your child’s attention if they lose track of where you are sitting and GO to them if they are unable to see you. Putting a piece of reflective tape on key areas of their jacket or shirt can aid you in spotting them.

·          KNOW that bad guys lurk near the restrooms, GO with them to that area to keep a safer eye on your kids!

·          KNOW that movie theaters are havens for all types of people so if you sit near an unruly group GO and find another seat just to be safe.

Changing Seasons - When Should I Change The Clothes In My Baby's Closet? By Michal Moreno

During the past few years weather has become highly unexpected. Whether it is due to global warming, or just a phase the globe is going through, we as parents need to make adjustments in many aspects – and one of them is when and how we change our baby's wardrobe.

When thinking of the best way to organize our baby's closet or chest, it seems that one big closet with space for both winter and summer clothes is the best solution, but since most of us do not have unlimited closet space, we need to make smart seasonal space considerations.

As a mother of three young children – two of them are babies, I have a method that works well, which I'd like to share it with you, and it goes as follows:

Best Daycare & School Contest in Mississauga

Fun School

The winner of the Moms of Mississauga  “Best Daycare & School in Mississauga”  contest is FUN SCHOOL.  With great support from present & past FUN SCHOOL parents, they are all in agreement that FUN SCHOOL is the a great school to send your kids to.  FUN SCHOOL will receive an entire year of advertising courtesy of Moms of Mississauga. Congratulations!

Here’s what some of the parents had to say:

My son has attended Fun School for the past 8 months, in preparation for his start to JK in September and he absolutely loves it. The staff have really made 'school' a positive experience for my son and I plan to continue sending him to FUN school even when he starts JK in the fall.  The staff are great, the programs excellent, and the communication with parents has been top notch. I do feel they offer a safe, well run and supportive environment for kids to explore their potential and have fun. I will definitely send my daughter when she is old enough.  JH

*****

Staff are excellent, Kids love it there and are great and I feel at total ease knowing my children are safe and well looked after!  TM

The school has a very nurturing environment. The staff are excellent and continually meet the education and emotional needs of the children in their care.  I am extremely happy that I found this school for my daughter and continually sing its praises to all. The JK program is second to none.  I highly recommend any parent to visit the school and see for themselves just how great it is.   HH
